The Vision

SEEDA’s overall vision for Daedalus is a sustainable, high quality mixed-used development, which respects the site’s exciting heritage whilst releasing its potential to contribute to the economic growth of the region.

What does this actually mean?

Sustainable

SEEDA wants to ensure that the development will be long-lasting and built for the future.

High Quality

SEEDA wants to ensure the development will use appropriate materials, be sensitively designed and be built to the highest possible standards

Mixed-Use

SEEDA envisages that the development will include a range of uses including employment, some of which may be within the aviation and marine sectors; leisure, recreational and community facilities; educational facilities and housing.

Heritage

SEEDA recognises that the area has a long and interesting history and will ensure that the development embraces this.

Economic Growth

SEEDA aims to develop the site in a way that will increase the number of jobs and businesses operating within the area.

Development of the vision

SEEDA has a vision for Daedalus, however no decisions have yet been made about the future of the site. The first stage is for SEEDA to consult with local residents, stakeholders and all interested parties to consider the vision in more detail and identify how the site can best be developed.

Masterplan

Once the vision is agreed, the next stage is for this to be developed into a masterplan for the site.

What is a masterplan?

A masterplan is a document which demonstrates how a site could be developed in terms of physical change, such as buildings, public spaces, roads, pedestrian routes, etc.

A masterplan would normally comprise a combination of text, drawings, plans, models and illustrations.

SEEDA has appointed LDA Design to produce a masterplan for the site.

A masterplan normally refers to a defined and specific parcel of land. However, in addition to producing a masterplan for the site, SEEDA will be considering a wider area and producing a transport strategy and other supporting documents which consider the impact of the proposed masterplan on the peninsula.

Transport

SEEDA recognises that transport and traffic management is, and will continue to be, a critical issue for all residents and businesses of the Gosport Peninsula and surrounding area. It will also be a concern for potential inward investors.

As such, SEEDA has appointed MVA Consultancy as transport consultants who will be involved in the project from the start. MVA will assess the impact on transport as plans for Daedalus evolve, it will identify ways for any negative impact to be minimised and any positive impacts to be enhanced. See our news story.

Heritage

SEEDA recognises that Daedalus has a long and interesting history closely associated with the military and wants to ensure that any development is sensitive to its heritage.
