This phase has now been completed.  Please visit the Phase Two consultation page for information on the next stage of the project.

As detailed in the consultation strategy, the aim of Phase 1 of the community consultation was to establish what aspirations local residents have for the future of Daedalus.  These thoughts were captured through a number of means including a baseline questionnaire.

Baseline Questionnaire

During May 2007, a freepost questionnaire was sent to 20,000 homes in the wards of Hill Head, Stubbington, Bridgemary North, Bridgemary South, Peel Common, Rowner and Holbrook, Grange, Lee West and Lee East.  There was a fantastic response rate of over 25% as we received 5,187 replies.

On-Line Questionnaire

The questionnaire was also available on-line via the website.  This was also successful with around 200 people completing the form electronically.

Street Surveys

The project’s community consultants, Groundwork Solent, undertook 140 face-to-face street surveys on 19 May at Stubbington Mall, Lee-on-the-Solent Marine Parade and Gosport High Street as well as an afternoon of surveys at Fareham High Street on 22 May.  Many more took freepost questionnaires away with them to complete at home.

Consultation With Local Schools and Community Groups

In addition to the questionnaire, Groundwork Solent has visited many local schools and community groups to inform them and engage with about the redevelopment.

Schools

The Youth and Education Team at Groundwork Solent visited a number of local schools to carry out interactive workshops and find out what the younger generation envisage the future of Daedalus.

On the 13 June, sixty Year 5 pupils from Ranvilles Junior School visited the site and participated in a number of exercises which included telling us what they would like to see built here.  The results of all consultation will be fed into a report which will inform the masterplanning process.

Community Groups

SEEDA and Groundwork Solent have attended a number of community group meetings to discuss the Daedalus Project.  If you would like a member of the Project Team to come and talk to your community group about the redevelopment, please contact SEEDA c/o Katie Pereira at Freephone Daedalus 0800 077 8439 or daedalus-project@seeda.co.uk.

Next Steps

Following the completion of Phase 1, SEEDA and Groundwork Solent have been undertaking Phase 2 of the consultation strategy.

Through the questionnaire, five key areas of interest emerged – transport and access; heritage and building design; green and open space; employment; and leisure, tourism and community facilities.  To help SEEDA and the Project Team find out more about why these five areas are important to you, a Topic Group for each of the five areas has been arranged.  A number of people from local community groups and those which expressed a particular interest for one of the areas in their questionnaire replies have been invited to attend a session.  A very successful Drop In Event was held on Monday 30 July at Lee Methodist Church Hall.

The results of Phase 1 and Phase 2 will be passed to the Project Team to consider.  The consultants will then work together to produce a number of options which will be presented to the residents for their comments in autumn 2007.
